We are two inspired amateurs who believe that gardens should never be finished and the journey is most of the fun. Melissa (right) is just starting on that journey–remaking her first yard in Raleigh, North Carolina. While lucky Chris (left) has been building her nearby garden for more than 25 years.
Both of us work. Melissa has a demanding job as a marketing and social media specialist for a giant technical firm. Chris recently retired after 30 years as a TV producer and now writes and edits video for various clients from home. She also creates fabric collages and accessories from vintage and recycled materials. View her work at www.kikisrewinddesigns.com

Despite coming from different generations, we are great friends and collaborators. Or lives are richer, our gardens–better for it. With this blog we hope to expand the circle, adding other like-minded gardeners who will share their experiences, ideas, and solutions.

I love your blog, ladies!
When I met Chris, my vision of a garden was overdosing on impatiens for summer color. Chris invited me to her garden– being the Southern girl she is, she offered me tea and we took a walk. I was blown away! I had never seen such beauty and plant diversity in a private garden! Chris not only inspired me to become a gardener, she taught me much of what I now know. Through the years, Chris has given me plants , loaned me grow lights, delivered truck loads of compost to my clay ridden perennial beds (and then tilled it into the clay), and shared her vast wisdom. Thanks to Chris, I am now obsessed with gardening. It is my favorite pass time!
Melissa, I look forward to meeting you and your garden!

So happy to see that you are a reader, Kremer. Even if you don’t have a southern garden, you do have southern roots…
And your hibiscu look like you are living in the tropics. Ok if I share the pictures you shared?
It’s going to 94 today and the humidity is like walking through water. Save that zone envy for fall, winter and early spring. Right now, I’m the one with envy.
Thanks for the comment.
